LOCAL SCHOOL LAUNCHES LLOYDS BANK FESTIVAL OF RUNNING

Lakeside Primary School lace up their trainers to launch the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon Festival of Running.

Pupils and teachers at Lakeside Primary School in Cardiff received an unexpected visitor this week as Reddy The Teddy – mascot of the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon – visited the school to meet the children and officially launch the 2014 Festival of Running.

Taking place on Saturday 4th October in Cardiff’s Civic Centre, the Festival of Running forms part of the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon weekend, with the half marathon race taking place the very next day on Sunday 5th October.

Incorporating a whole host of events, races, come-and-try sports activities, face painting, and entertainment, the Festival of Running is an entire day of athletic entertainment to get you and your family’s heart racing.

At the centre of the day’s event programme sits the ever-popular 2.4km Family Fun Run. Open to all ages and abilities, there’s no pressure to record fast times or run all the way round. Instead, dig out your best fancy dress, raise a bit of money for charity and have a lot of fun with your family and all the great crowds around the course.
Lakeside Primary School have already registered 100 fun run places for pupils to take part in the race and raise money to buy new school playground equipment. On top of this, many of the parents and teachers have also signed up for the full Cardiff Half Marathon the day after.

“Lakeside Primary School and its community are excited about being involved in the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon Family Fun Run,” said Deputy Head-teacher Caroline Neudegg. “The children are raring to go now they’ve seen Reddy The Teddy and have started training for the event.

“Lakeside Primary school are committed to getting as many families, individuals and staff involved in the Fun Run as possible. We are keen to help local charities, the school’s own outdoor learning project fund and to get fit!”
Entry into the family fun run costs £7.50 per person, or £25 for a family of four, and this includes a commemorative medal and t-shirt for everyone who takes part. We encourage people to run for our charity partner Barnardo’s. All money raised will help transform vulnerable children’s lives at Barnardo’s projects across the UK.

Before the fun run, make sure you don’t miss the brilliant mascot race, which is always an entertaining spectacle with mascots from across south Wales competing to become the fastest over 100m.

On top of this, one-mile road races will be taking place throughout the day alongside a range of other sporting activities and entertainment. Fast, fun and always thrilling to watch, the one-mile competition is an inspiring event for novice runners and a great opportunity for more experienced athletes to race over the fabled one-mile distance.

The Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon Festival of Running is a brilliant day of fun athletic challenges, music and entertainment. It’s the perfect start to the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon weekend, so lace up your trainers and come running with us!
