We kick off the running fever on Saturday morning with a full day of fun activities, entertainment and running for all ages and abilities. With smiling faces, fancy dress, and (fingers crossed) a bright blue sky, the Cardiff Half Junior will prove to be a thrilling start to the Principality Building Society Cardiff Half Marathon weekend.
The event offers a no-pressure, family-focused Fun Run, a Toddler Dash for those taking their first steps into physical activity and a Future Challengers race for talented young athletes and junior club runners looking for an accessible and competitive race.
So, dig out your best fancy dress, drag along the rest of your family and friends and enjoy the day. Expect a vibrant atmosphere and loads of support from the crowd.
Fun Run and Future Challengers race entry includes CHM Junior branded finishers medals and children’s t-shirts plus chip timing, meaning you can check out your official time after the race.
We encourage people to run for our charity partner NSPCC. If you choose to run for #TeamNSPCC, you’ll be running to rebuild the lives of children who have been abused in the UK. As a team, you’ll be preventing any more abuse and neglect.

Sports Activities & Entertainment
Throughout the day there will be an exciting mix of come and try sports and family entertainment – so, even if those not taking part can get involved!
You must register by Sunday 15 September at midnight to guarantee a space and to receive a race pack (including running number) in the post ahead of the event. A limited number of entries will be available beyond that to pre-book for collection on the morning of the event, but are expected to sell out. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
Registration closes on Sunday 29 September at midnight. Anyone registering after the 15 September will not receive a race pack in the post, and will need to collect their race bib from the Event Village on the morning of the race.
There is no set age limit for the Fun Run. However, any runners aged 8 or under must be accompanied by an adult at all times during the race. Accompanying adults must purchase their own race entry. Event organisers have the right to prevent any unaccompanied runners (who are under the required age) from running.
Adults who wish to accompany their children during the Fun Run (under 8s must be accompanied) but do not wish to receive finishers items or an official result can purchase a cheaper ‘accompanying adult’ entry for £3.
Accompanying adults are not permitted in the Future Challengers race, where all participants must be aged 8 or over.
The route starts and finishes in front of Cardiff City Hall (near College Road junction) and will take runners around Cardiff Civic Centre (Alexandra Gardens & North Road). The route equates to a distance of 2K.
The Fun Run welcomes participants of all fitness levels. In previous years some participants have preferred to walk the whole course, particularly if they are accompanied by children. The Future Challengers race is ideal for more competitive children or club athletes.
The Fun Run and Future Challengers races including chip timing. A chip is embedded in your race number and will measure how long it takes you to complete the race. Results will be available online after the race.
You must register online before 2nd September 2022 in order to receive a race pack in the post prior to the event. A limited number of entries will be available beyond that to pre-book online for collection on the day.
