Celebrating 20 Years Of Collaboration With Founding Charity Partner, Barnardo’s
Founding charity of the Cardiff Half Barnardo’s have joined the 2023 Cardiff Half Marathon 20th anniversary celebrations.
Barnardo’s are the original founders of the Cardiff Half Marathon and will be bringing even more history and nostalgia to an already much-anticipated event on Sunday 1 October.
In 2003, 1500 runners lined up to take on the very first edition of the Cardiff Half organised by Barnardo’s. Under R4W’s organisation and Barnardo’s help in evolving the race, the iconic Cardiff Half now brings in 25000 runners from across the globe.
Both the Founding Charity and the event has done a lot of growing since then, both of which will be celebrated as part of our 20th anniversary celebrations.
Every year, the Barnardo’s team and fundraisers are out in force in the capital, creating unforgettable support for every runner. Since 2017, the charity has been acknowledged by the race as an Official Founding Partner and have played an integral role in the growth of the event.
To mark twenty years of collaboration, Barnardo’s will once again be offering their runners exclusive hospitality in City Hall on race day.

‘Barnardo’s Cymru are excited about our new Associate Charity partnership for the 2023 Cardiff Half Marathon. Barnardo’s founded the Cardiff Half Marathon 20 years ago and since then runners have raised thousands of pounds in support of our work with children, young people and families.
‘We are seeing a growing demand for our services with many families needing more support in relation to their mental health often exacerbated by the impact of cost of living concerns around heating or eating. We’re reaching out to any of our past runners from the last 20 years, along with new runners, to join our 2023 team and help us raise vital funds.
‘We’ll make sure all our runners have an unforgettable day with their own Barnardo’s running vest, cheer stations along the route, and an exclusive invitation to our 20th Birthday party at the finish line complete with massage and cake!’
Barnardo’s are joining this year’s Cardiff Half in a greater role to say thank you to every runner who has participated in the iconic half marathon over the past twenty years, and reach out to any new runners as the need for fundraisers is ever increasing.
