Cardiff Half Marathon

Cardiff Blues lock horns with Glamorgan at Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon!

Cardiff Blues and Glamorgan will swap rugby boots and cricket bats for running shoes for this year’s Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon Corporate Challenge.

Staff from two of Cardiff’s most recognisable sporting institutions will go head-to-head in a bid to become Wales’ fastest company on October 1st. The team from Sophia Gardens are hoping to hit the Blues for six when they take-on the iconic Cardiff course, but Wales’ capital region will have other ideas when they join 25,000 runners on the start line.

The team behind Sam Warburton and co. are running the iconic route around the Welsh capital in support of the #StayStrongForOws campaign. The team of five will continue their efforts to raise money for former Wales and Blues star Owen Williams, who suffered a life-changing injury while representing the region at a pre-season tournament in 2014.

Run 4 Wales the events company behind Cardiff Half Marathon are calling on other Welsh businesses to take on the corporate challenge and join 25,000 runners on Sunday 1st October at Wales’ flagship mass participation event.

The Cardiff Half corporate challenge is a great Team Building opportunity and fantastic vehicle for staff to fundraise for a charity close to their heart.

Companies large of small can get involved. Teams of five people or more can enter – every member of the team completes the entire 13.1 mile distance, with the fastest five times from each team registering. The fastest average team time wins!

“We can’t wait to challenge ourselves against firms from across Wales, including our sporting rivals over at Glamorgan Cricket. We’ll be training hard ahead of October 1st, and we would love to see other runners get behind Owen, whose bravery will be inspiring us all at Cardiff Blues.”

Glamorgan Chief Executive, Hugh Morris, said: “We’re delighted to be taking part in an event synonymous with Cardiff alongside another of the city’s most iconic sporting brands. Our team will be out to become the fastest firm in Wales on race day, and we would encourage other companies to get involved.

“Running in-front of around 50,000 supporters and the masses watching on television gives us a fantastic opportunity to showcase our brand. And we can’t wait to be a part of the biggest and best Cardiff Half Marathon yet.”
