Angharad tackling Cardiff Half journey after weightloss transformation

Angharad Hill has already completed a stunning weight loss journey, and now she is getting ready to tackle the 13.1 miles of the Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon to raise vital funds for Mind.

Angharad has shed more than 10 stone after lacing up her trainers to overcome her own issues with depression and anxiety.

But now she is determined to help others going through their own individual struggles by raising vital funds for Mind, who offer information and advice to sufferers, while raising awareness and understanding of related issues.

“I started going to the gym, and I thought I’d sign up to it, especially as it’s for Mind as well, because there’s a big concern about mental health nowadays,” said the inspiring participant. “In the past I did work experience with them (Mind), but I’ve also had a lot of anxiety myself, so I thought it’d be good to do it.

“It’d be great to raise awareness for mental health, especially down here, people don’t really talk about it.”

People living in rural areas, like Angharad who calls Haverfordwest home, may be at greater risk of mental health issues due to a lack of access to health and related services.

Public Health England published a case study which stated rural residents could be at risk of ‘distance decay’ where service use decreases with increasing distance.

Mind provide a vital link, offering a range of online services, including a helpline providing an information and signposting service.

“We’ve only got small centres here in Pembrokeshire, but I’ve seen a lot of online stuff, and I know friends that have got in contact with their helpline, and had good feedback from that,” she said.

After her staggering weight loss, Angharad will also be hoping to take part in the Bubble Rush fun run in Swansea in May, as well as the Cardiff 10K in September. She will then complete her inspirational journey in the Cardiff

University Cardiff Half Marathon on October 4th. “I’ve heard it’s really good and that there’s a good atmosphere so I’m really looking forward to it.” Angharad added.
