ALDI JOINS THE CARDIFF UNIVERSITY/CARDIFF HALF MARATHON TEAM

Award-winning supermarket Aldi joins Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon team for 2016

Four-time Which? Best Supermarket winner Aldi has been named Official Partner of the 2016 Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon.

The initial one-year partnership will see Aldi provide financial sponsorship plus 20,000 bananas and 20,000 chocolate bars into the finishers’ goody bags of the UK’s second biggest half marathon.

This year’s Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 2nd October and is expected to attract more than 20,000 runners to the Welsh capital.

Matt Newman, chief executive of Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon organisers Run 4 Wales, commented:

“We are delighted to welcome Aldi on board for this year’s Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon.

“Aldi, like the Cardiff Half Marathon, has grown significantly over the last 10 years and is the ideal partner as we continue to build this fantastic event.

“This is an exciting year for the event with Cardiff University becoming Title Sponsor following the hugely successful IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in March and we are looking forward to putting on the biggest and best Cardiff Half Marathon event so far.”

Aldi is in the process of recruiting over 260 people for its £59.5m regional distribution centre in Cardiff, which is due to open in early 2017.

The new centre on the Capital Business Park is part of Aldi’s continued development in South Wales, which could see up to 10 new stores in Wales over the next five years with the potential for more than 500 new jobs.

Aldi Finance and Administration Director, Tom Kings, added: “We’re pleased to be able to support the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon, and we hope the competitors enjoy their goody bags treats.

“Our expansion in the area has created a significant need for staff for both our stores and our Regional Distribution Centre, and we hope our presence in the capital continues to support its thriving economy.

“We wish everyone taking part in the marathon the best of luck.”
