01.10.16 - Cardiff Half Marathon Family Fun Day -

Saturday Events: Festival Of Running

An entire day of athletic entertainment to get you and your family’s heart racing.

The Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon is more than just 13 miles on a Sunday morning! We kick off the running fever on Saturday morning with a full day of fun activities, entertainment and running for all ages and abilities to take part in.

Whether you want to have a go at our mile road race challenge yourself, simply sit back and watch some of the best club athletes take on our one mile course, or have a go in our family fun run and toddler races, there’s lots to get your pulse racing.

With smiling faces, fancy dress, and (fingers crossed) a bright blue sky, the Cardiff University Festival of Running will once again prove to be a thrilling start to the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon weekend.

Time: TBC

Price: £8

Distance: 2.4km

Route: 2 laps around the Cardiff Civic Centre, starting outside Cardiff City Hall

Get the whole family involved in the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon race weekend by signing up to the Cardiff University, Family Fun Run on Saturday 30th September.

Perfectly suited to all ages and abilities, the 2.4km route loops twice around Cardiff’s Civic Centre, Alexandria Gardens and North Road. The entry fee for the event is £8 per person, or £26 for a family of 4. Discounted group entries are also available for schools upon request to cardiffhalfmarathon@run4wales.org.

There’s no pressure to record fast times or even run all the way round. Instead, dig out your best fancy dress, drag along the rest of your family and friends and enjoy the experience. There’ll be plenty to keep you going all the way round and with a vibrant atmosphere and loads of support from the crowd, you’ll be round the course in no time with a big beaming smile across your face. On completion of the race, each participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt and medal.

We encourage people to run for our charity partner Barnardo’s. If you choose to run for Barnardo’s, all your sponsorship money will help transform vulnerable children’s lives at Barnardo’s projects across the UK. Contact events@barnardos.org.uk or 02920436236 for more information on how to raise money or a sponsorship pack.

There are no age limits for the race, but children under eight must be accompanied by an adult, and unaccompanied children must be brought to the start and met at the fun run exit. A race pack will be sent out two weeks prior to the event if you enter before Wednesday 20th September. After this time you can pick up your number on the day. Registration is also available on the day.

For those with a need for speed, our programme of one-mile road races will offer plenty of fast-paced action for spectators and athletes alike.

And you don’t have to be a club athlete to take part. If you fancy the challenge, we also have an open race incorporated in the programme so that anyone up for the challenge can join in.

We will also be hosting the Welsh Mile Road Race Championships alongside the popular British Masters Championships.

This engrossing competition is brilliant to watch as it always results in some close finishes and fast times over this rarely run distance.

If you want to be included in the championship, you must meet the criteria outlined on the application form.

Time: All Day

If you and your family still have energy to burn, throughout the day you’ll also find a host of Come and Try sports activities to take part in. Provided by Welsh Athletics and Sport Cardiff, you’ll find all sorts of sports to take part in and have a go at on City Hall lawns. Come along for free on the day and everything on offer.

Time: All Day

Throughout the day there will be an exciting mix of live music, food and street entertainment to dive in to and keep everyone entertained throughout the day. So even if you’re not taking part in any of the events, there will be plenty to see and do through the day.
