Cardiff Half Marathon

Options for Entrants with an Overseas Entry

You will be able to use your space in the rescheduled event on Sunday 27 March 2022 or decide between a number of additional options, which are detailed below.

Some of the options include a deadline, so please choose your preference as soon as possible to avoid missing out.

1) A free transfer to the re-scheduled event on Sunday 27 March 2022

Your entry has been transferred automatically so you do not need to re-register. We will keep you updated with details on the re-scheduled event as it draws closer. You also have the option to run the race virtually in October 2021 for free (see more details at option 5 below).

2) A free transfer to the next edition of the race on 2 October 2022

We understand that travel restrictions and quarantine complications may make overseas travel difficult over the coming months, so runners registered as an ‘International Entrant’ can opt to transfer their entry to October 2022 instead.

The rescheduled event will fall in the Spring, which may impact plans to run some of the Spring races in the SuperHalfs Series so this option is extended to those who have purchased a SuperHalfs Series Pass. Please contact us on [email protected] to request this as soon as possible.

3) A credit note voucher, redeemable against any future R4W event purchase

If you would not like to attend the rescheduled event, you can claim the amount you paid for your entry as a digital voucher, redeemable against any future Run 4 Wales event purchase. If the event you register for in future costs less than your Cardiff Half Marathon entry, you will retain the additional un-used value for another future purchase on your voucher.

Run 4 Wales organise the Cardiff Half Marathon, Newport Wales Marathon & 10K, Cardiff Bay Run, Porthcawl 10K, Barry Island 10K plus a series of virtual events – and credit notes can be used against any of these.

If you would like to take up this option, you must follow the instructions below to request a credit note voucher by 16 August 2021. There is no time limit on using the voucher.

  • Login to the MyEvents portal using the email address and password you used when signing up.
  • Select ‘2022 Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon; (if it does not appear – select ‘claim registration’ and enter the registration ID from your confirmation email).
  • Select the ‘Change Event’ button and then ‘R4W Credit Note Voucher’.
  • Select the entry type you were registered for (i.e Early Bird Entry, General Entry, Affiliated Entry, Welsh Athletics Entry, International Entry, Welsh Distance Double Pass’) then complete the registration form. You will not have to pay anything at the checkout if you have selected the correct entry type.
  • Your credit note request will be processed by 1 October 2021 at the latest. You will receive an e-mail from ACTIVE once it has been.
  • Instructions on how to use a credit note voucher when registering for a R4W event can be seen here.

Please note: the Credit Note option is not available to you if you purchased your entry via an official charity as the value of that space belongs to the charity – who will have offered it to you at a discounted rate.

4) The opportunity to transfer your space to another runner and receive your entry fee back

If you are unable to attend the rescheduled date you may wish to transfer your space to another runner. We will waive the usual £5.80 transfer fee and you will have until August 2022 to make the transfer.

Please note that for insurance and medical reasons, all transfers must be conducted through the official transfer service – which is set up to ensure you do not need to share personal or payment information – just a transfer link.

The runner taking up your space will pay for an entry, and when the transaction is complete the cost of your entry will be returned to your payment card.

As the event has sold out, you’ll find loads of people on the official Facebook event or training group looking to pick up a transfer space so they can take part. Leave a post that you have a transfer space available, then send a link (generated through ACTIVE) to somebody willing to take it.

If you have an Affiliated or Welsh Athletics entry type you will need to transfer it to someone eligible to take it (that is affiliated to a UK or Welsh Athletics club).

5) A free transfer to the rescheduled event on Sunday 27 March 2022 AND the opportunity to run virtually for free in October 2021

If you would like to hold onto your space in the rescheduled live event taking place on Sunday 27 March 2022 but would also like to run virtually in October 2021 you may register for the virtual event free of charge.

Your free entry will include access to the virtual results platform to log your finish time and exclusive early access to the launch of the 19th edition of the Cardiff Half Marathon (scheduled for October 2022). You will have the opportunity to purchase an optional experience pack for £15 which will include a race number to wear during your virtual race, a finishers medal and commemorative official t-shirt.

If you would rather receive a free medal and t-shirt, you also have the option to (detailed in option 6 below) transfer your March 2022 live race entry into an October 2021 virtual race space.

To register, click below and complete the registration form by 31 July 2021.

6) The opportunity to participate virtually INSTEAD between 1-3 October 2021 and receive a finishers medal and t-shirt.

If you would not like to attend the event in 2022 and would prefer run in October 2021 you can opt to transfer your space into the virtual race.

You also have the option to retain your space in the rescheduled live event in March 2022 and run virtually in October 2021 (and will find details at option 5 above).

Runners will need to provide evidence of covering the race distance (using an app like Strava, a GPS tracker or a picture of gym equipment) and we will send them a finishers medal and t-shirt in the post. We will cover the postage costs. Medals and t-shirts will be 2021 branded.

Please note, if you take up this option your entry in the rescheduled event on Sunday 27 March will be cancelled and this cannot be undone.

Completing the race virtually will NOT count towards completing the SuperHalfs series of races in Lisbon, Prague, Copenhagen, Cardiff and Valencia.

If you would like to take up this option, you will need to transfer into the virtual race by 31 July 2021 using the MyEvents portal:

  • Login to the MyEvents portal using the email address and password you used when signing up.
  • Select ‘2022 Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon’ (if it does not appear – select ‘claim registration’ and enter the registration ID from your confirmation email).
  • Select the ‘Change Event’ button and then ‘2021 Virtual Cardiff Half Marathon’.
  • Complete the registration form. You will not have to pay anything at the checkout.

7) Donate your entry to the R4W Charitable Foundation

The R4W Charitable Foundation (registered charity number 1160212) awards funding to grassroots sport and other community projects (such as the Welsh Schools Athletic Association, parkrun and the Run Wales social running programme).

Since 2012, it has awarded over £500,000 to projects in Wales. The foundation is usually funded by the surpluses generated by Run 4 Wales events, which cannot go ahead in 2020 because of COVID-19, so your support will help at a crucial time.

If you cannot attend the new date and would like to donate your entry, please follow the instructions below. Your entry in the rescheduled event will be cancelled, and you will not be able to un-do this. We thank you for your support, it is really appreciated:

  • Login to the MyEvents portal using the email address and password you used when signing up.
  • Select ‘2022 Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon; (if it does not appear – select ‘claim registration’ and enter the registration ID from your confirmation email).
  • Select the ‘Change Event’ button and then ‘R4W Charitable Foundation Donation’.
  • Select the entry type you were registered for (i.e Early Bird Entry, General Entry, Affiliated Entry, Welsh Athletics Entry, International Entry, Welsh Distance Double Pass’) then complete the registration form to process the donation.
