Lloyds TSB proudly support the Cardiff Half Marathon

Release Date: 18/06/2010

This year’s Cardiff Half Marathon will be bigger and better than ever, with Lloyds TSB supporting Wales’s largest race and flagship running event in 2010.

The bank will help the event to take place on a larger scale. They will also be promoting the event to the banks customers and a team of runners from Lloyds TSB will also be taking part.

Allan McLaren from Barnardo’s, the event organiser, says, ‘This new sponsorship deal will help attract new runners and audiences. By growing the event, the Lloyds TSB Cardiff Half Marathon will help raise even more vital funds for hundreds of charities and good causes across the UK.

‘2009's Cardiff Half Marathon was a record-breaker, with over 11,000 registered runners cheered on by over 20,000 spectators. This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever before. Over 7,000 runners have already signed up, so we are advising everyone to register early as places ran out weeks ahead of the event last year!’

Huw Morgan, Wales Regional Director, Lloyds TSB explains; ‘We are delighted to announce that we will be supporting the Cardiff Half Marathon in 2010.  We are proud to be associated with such an inspirational event and are looking forward to raising awareness of such a high profile sports challenge that raises so much money for good causes.’

Lloyds TSB has over 100 branches throughout Wales, employing over 1400 members of staff. It is part of the Lloyds Banking Group, which is one of the UK’s largest community investors.  The Group is committed to ensuring that it has a positive impact on communities across the UK by investing and participating in the communities in which its businesses are based.

It has a strong track record donating over £20 million a year to good causes all around the UK through its charitable Foundations. In 2009 in Wales, £1.25 million of grants were made to support the core work of 83 small to medium size charities.

Last year it is estimated that the Cardiff Half Marathon event raised well over £1/2 million pounds for charity.  Over 150 different charities and good causes benefited last year.  In terms of fundraising for good causes, the event is the Welsh equivalent of the London Marathon.
