2017 Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon Sold Out!

The 2017 Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon is a sell-out for the first time in its fourteen year history.

The final general entires were snapped up over the weekend to make this year’s race the biggest ever. A total of 25,000 runners have booked their place at Wales’ largest mass-participation event with just under 10 weeks until race day on Sunday 1st October.

Even though general entries have sold-out, there is still time to be a part of an unforgettable weekend of running in the heart of the Welsh capital. Runners can still get a place on the start-line through one of the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon’s official charities.

Many of the charities have free or reduced price entries available, and offer dedicated support. Click here to see our list of Official Charities who still have spaces available.

Matt Newman, Run4Wales CEO, commented: “A massive thank you must go to everyone who has entered this year’s Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon to make it the biggest and best yet.

“We’re working hard to deliver an action-packed weekend across our Festival Of Running on Saturday, before 25,000 take-on the flat, fast and iconic course which has made the Cardiff Half the event it is today.

“The event has grown at a rapid rate since it’s inception in 2003 and has now become the UK’s second largest half marathon and Wales’ largest mass-participation event. The masses of supporters who line the streets play a vital role in making the Cardiff Half the event it is today. And we cannot wait to welcome 25,000 runners and even more supporters to the capital on October 1st.”

The success of the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon has helped it become the first half marathon in the UK to be awarded the coveted Silver Road Race Label by the IAAF, meaning it will attract some of the world’s best elite athletes. Supporters will line the streets of the Welsh capital, while BBC Wales will be covering all the action live on Sunday 1st October as runners flood the streets.

The flat, fast, iconic Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon route remains for 2017. The race starts outside Cardiff Castle and runners then head down past Cardiff City Stadium on the way to Penarth. They take in Penarth Marina before crossing the barrage and heading to Cardiff Bay. Runners run right through the heart of the bay taking in the Norwegian Church and Wales Millennium Centre.

The course then heads towards the north of the city and runners will complete a loop of the beautiful Roath Park Lake before the grandstand finish in the heart of the city at the Civic Centre.

If you missed out on General Entries this year, make sure you’ve pre-registered for 2018, so you’re first to know when discounted early bird entries go on sale. Demand is expected to be high!
